Dr. Amit M. Shelat specializes in the treatment of all disorder that affect the brain and the spinal cord. This includes: migraines and other types of headache disorders, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders, Alzheimer’s Disease, ALS (Lou Gherig’s Disease), peripheral neuropathy including diabetic neuropathy, epilepsy and seizure disorders, brain hemorrhage, brain aneurysms, cavernous malformations, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord compression, brain infections (meningitis, encephalitis) and other neurological conditions. Dr. Shelat has extensive experience with treating patients with Arnold-Chiari Malformation and syringomyelia.
Dr. Shelat is board-certified in Neurology by both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. (ABPN) and the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (AOBNP). He is currently Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. Dr. Shelat is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Shelat completed his undergraduate studies at New York University and graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and psychology with departmental honors. He completed his medical doctorate at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Shelat holds the Master of Science degree in Healthcare Management from Harvard University and the Master of Public Administration degree in Health Policy and Management from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.

In the 20+ years since receiving her Board Certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, she has seen a variety of patients who have needed a physician trained in both Neurology and Psychiatry including the traumatically brain injured patient who has both physical, cognitive and emotional challenges, the stroke patient with depression, the epileptic patient who hears voices , the patient with chronic pain with severe mood alterations. She began her training in Internal Medicine at NY Presbyterian Hospital and followed it with a Psychiatry Residency at NYS Psychiatric Institute and a Neurology Residency at NY Medical College. These trainings and subsequent patient exposures has given her the tools of clinical examination, interpretation of neuro-imaging and neuro-motor studies, and neuro-psychopharmacological management that have privileged her to comprehensively treat both neurological and psychiatric patients.

Tuna Burgut, MD trained in both Psychiatry and Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Dr. Gill treats children and adults of all ages in inpatient and outpatient setting. He served as the Chief Resident of the Psychiatry program at the West Virginia University. In 2007, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Minority Fellowship Selection and Advisory Committee selected Dr. Gill to be a 2007-2008 APA Minority Fellow with $25,000 scholarship. He works as a consultant in US as well as Canada for several multispecility hospitals and outpatient practices.
