Emergency Medicine

Emergency medicine is a special field in medicine that deals with illnesses that need immediate medical attention. This encompasses the treatment in emergency situations involving people of all ages, including pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Moreover, it consists of the treatment of all the body systems, so long as they are involved in causing an immediate danger to the patient.

Advances in protocols regarding the treatment of patients in emergency conditions has helped a lot in improving the statistics concerning the morbidity and mortality of patients handled by emergency medical personnel. However, it is still emphasized that proper referrals after the institution of these protocols are necessary for improving patient stability and recuperation.

Dr. Lehmann’s interest in medicine began as a child when she read a book about a first-year doctor’s fascinating experience working in the hospital. After majoring in Spanish Literature, minoring in Physics and Chemistry, studying abroad in Spain and graduating summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University, she attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed residencies in both Internal Medicine (Vanderbilt University Affiliated Hospitals) and Emergency Medicine (The University of California at Los Angeles). Dr. Lehmann achieved Board Certification in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine and began her practice of Emergency Medicine in 1990. She went on to achieve Fellowship in the American College of Emergency Physicians. In 2000 significant neck issues caused her to reorient her practice and continuing medical education toward Internal Medicine. Dr. Lehmann also achieved Fellowship in the American College of Physicians. During the practice of each specialty it has been important to her to give every patient the level of care and attention she would want a family member to have. In her free time, Dr. Lehmann likes to be with family, read, walk, garden, and travel. Recently, she has been volunteering frequently to give COVID vaccinations.
