Alexander Shapsis, M.D. is a Board-Certified, fellowship-trained Gastroenterologist in the New York area, specializing in all aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology, and hepato-billiary diseases.
Born in Moldova, Dr. Shapsis came to the United States with his family in 1991, and completed his undergraduate studies at New York University with a major in Biochemistry and a double Minor in Math and Philosophy. He graduated Cum Laude and finished his medical school training at the SUNY Downstate School of Medicine at the top of his class. He is also the winner of the HIAS scholarship for his academic merits.
Dr. Shapsis completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the St. Vincents Medical Center of Manhattan. Following his residency, Dr. Shapsis completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the St. Vincents Medical Center of Manhattan, as well as The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Shapsis is an attending physician at St. Vincents Medical Center of Manhattan, where he teaches residents and Fellows the basics of Gastroenterology. Dr. Shapsis has presented nationally and is a published author of multiple research articles on various topics in gastroenterology, gastrointestinal motility, and ano-rectal disorders. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Shapsis is strongly committed to the care of his patients and the treatment of colon cancer.

Charles J. Cattano, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF is Chief of Medicine at Anne Arundel Medical Center, a Johns Hopkins affiliated hospital in Annapolis, MD. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association, he has been repeatedly selected as Regional Top Gastroenterologist by the Castle Connolly directory, as Top Gastroenterogist in the Nation by healthtap.com (64,000 physicians dedicated to patient care), and local Top Doc by his peers through What's Up Annapolis magazine. He is biographied in eight Who's Who listings, has served as Principal Investigator for numerous clinical trials, and is a longstanding member of Mensa. He completed in 1989 two fellowships simultaneously in adult gastroenterology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and in Metabolic Diseases at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, preceded by residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, and medical school at SUNY-Upstate in Syracuse. He has served on faculties of Duke University and University of Pittsburgh, consulted internationally on pharmaceutical development, and actively adjudicates nationally for peer review, quality determinants, and utilization review. In addition, he has contributed to leadership and health programs at the rank of Captain in the US Air Force Auxiliary/Civil Air Patrol. A popular speaker, he loves to teach!
