Dr. Apazidis is a fellowship trained orthopedic spine surgeon devoted to the evaluation and management of a broad spectrum of adult and pediatric spinal disorders. He is board certified, concentrating his practice exclusively on spine care. He treats a full spectrum of degenerative and traumatic conditions of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, including scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal fracture, tumors, disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, and stenosis. His expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery and his extensive experience in deformity and revision surgery for complex spinal disorders make him a leader in the field of spine surgery. He has a particular interest in mini-incision surgery, microsurgery, and motion preserving procedures of the cervical and lumbar spine, including total disc replacement.
He has published numerous articles relating to treatment of the spine. Dr. Apazidis has special interest in workplace related injuries and is committed to providing comprehensive and individualized assessment for each patient. Dr. Apazidis recommends the most innovative, up-to-date, and clinically proven treatment plan. Additionally, he provides a thorough evaluation of the environmental, genetic, habitual, and metabolic causes of spine related conditions.
Dr. Apazidis graduated with Honors from Harvard University in 1994. After serving in the United States Army, he subsequently earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 2004 where he was inducted into the medical honor society. He completed a surgical internship and an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University Hospital Medical Center in New Jersey where he earned several honors for outstanding achievement and best practices. Dr. Apazidis then completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the New York University Medical Center and the Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan, NY.
He is an active member of the North American Spine Society and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has authored several textbook chapters and articles in the field of spine surgery. He serves on several committees for the American Medical Association,the New York State Medical Society, and the Suffolk County Medical Society.
