Allergy and Immunology
Immunology is a branch of medicine that specifically deals with the science of our body’s own defenses, otherwise known as our immune system. It describes the study of how hypersensitivity, autoimmune or deficiency reactions, among others, occur and aims to treat these alterations and prevent their further occurrence.
Allergies are one of the most common conditions that are diagnosed and treated under the discipline of immunology. They are basically hypersensitivity reactions to environmental allergens and can come in various forms. However, their manifestations could range from the local itchiness and runny nose to the more serious difficulty in breathing and circulatory shock.
